Available this Autumn, Enjoy An Espresso At Home Which The Environment Will Thank You For
Coming this Autumn to consumers via CoffeeClick.ie will be Lavazza’s brand-new Eco Caps, 100% compostable coffee capsules range.
Italians favourite coffee brand (Lavazza) announced the news in early July with the intention to make all of its coffee capsules compostable by 2025.
The compostable coffee capsules are made with Lavazza’s ‘aroma safe’ technology, which keeps oxygen out of the capsules to keep the coffee inside fresh and are compatible with Lavazza A Modo Mio capsule machines and a separate range which is 100% compatible with Nespresso Coffee Machine.
The Product Life Cycle
For consumers, after you prepare your compostable coffee capsules by using a coffee capsule machine of course you’ll then drink the coffee.
When it is time to empty out the waste capsule drawer, you can dispose of the capsule and the ground coffee residual into your food waste bin, the brown bin, you don’t have to rinse the capsule out.
Your household’s food waste will then be collected by the waste collection company and end up in an industrial composting facility. All you have to do is make sure you dispose of the capsules responsibly into the right bin.
Under the EN 13432 standard, the compostable plastics will need to be disintegrated after 12 weeks and completely biodegrade after six months. That means that 90 percent or more of the plastic material will have been converted to CO2. The remaining is converted into water and biomass.
The Eco Caps are made with organic compounds known as biopolymer. Under perfect conditions within a composting facility the capsules will end up as compost with the help of microorganisms after 180 days.
Keep an eye on this space for Lavazza’s 100% compostable capsules which will be available to buy from CoffeeClick.ie nationwide very soon. To find out more call us on 01 911 9911 or email customerservice@coffeeclick.ie.
